Almost a Big Kid

As I'm nearing closer to my move-in date to Iowa City, (August 19th, if anyone is interested) I've come to the realization that this summer has gone by insanely fast. As if this isn't the case every year, anyway, but here we are--two, going on almost three months after graduation and it still feels like the world has set us in place right here, like our lives will just stop and wait for us to catch up to what it's supposed to feel like when you're an "adult."

Aurora Borealis

It is currently 2am, and I can't help but write down what I saw in the sky not even an hour or so ago.

Life-Is-Too-Fast Update

Hi to anyone who reads these posts--I know it's been a month and three days since I last posted something substantial. (I'm sure you were all counting, right?) Anyway, I just want to say quick that if you are one of the people who clicks on this link and delves into my "life" via poetry and writing and rambling, then thank you so much. You actually have no idea how much it means that I have people reading this at all.

Smoked

This is my final big story for my independent study. I've been working on it for the last two weeks. Let me know what you think!

This is a story Mrs. Marincovich started and I had to finish. :)

The Sky

I applied for a scholarship this past fall, but I unfortunately did not win. I thought I could post my essay on here, anyway--I really enjoyed writing this piece.

The essay question was "Why is life more interesting when you are happy?"

Hide and Seek

This is a piece I wrote for my independent study--I had to pick a news article and then turn it into a poem. I picked one article that had to deal with a little boy going missing in the Missouri River. It's a little morbid compared to what I usually write.

Living and Learning

I wanted to sit down and try to write an actual blog post because lately it feels like everything is swirling around me. One problem after another keeps popping up in my life and I think it's time to start blowing off a little steam.

Waffles

Since I've been working on about a million papers at the moment, I haven't had much time for new pieces for the blog. But last year in my creative writing class, we had to write an ABC story where each new sentence started with a letter in the alphabet. Not as serious as my previous posts. Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!

Numbered Cage

I've been working on a piece that has to deal with the superficiality of the "number system" that guys sometimes use. Let me know what you think!

Missing

About four attempts and one frustrated  Friday later, I've finally completed my first sonnet. I really have to give props to Shakespeare for writing so many.

the art of poetry

In my independent study, I attempted to imitate the one and only, E.E. Cummings.

Travel Fever

So--here's the thing. I'm a broke senior in high school who is supposed to be saving wildly for a higher education, but then I see an ad on the internet about traveling, and suddenly, it doesn't even matter.

Two Lessons

A friend of mine recently asked if I would write something for her to use to perform for a scholarship pageant, and said that it could be centered around identity. So after finishing one poem, I wrote a whole different one. Sometimes it doesn't come out right the first time.

A Polaroid Past

I'm currently working on a new poem this week, but in the meantime, I thought I'd share something I wrote last year in my creative writing class! We were supposed to pick a picture to write about, so I found a couple of polaroids of my parents. This was one of my favorites. Let me know what you think!

Wow

This is a piece I wrote on a person I've met, but never saw outside of my workplace. Enjoy!

Why I Write

I think to help start the whole blogging thing, I'll explain why I write. This semester I'm taking an independent study with my former sophomore English/creative writing teacher, and basically I'm just going to try to write as much as I can until the end of the year. This was the first piece I started off with.

First Post Ever And I Can't Even Think Of A Creative Title

If ever there was a right time to start writing, I would probably never begin. So, instead of waiting for a correct time and place, I figure wasting precious time while I'm at work is always a good way to start off a blog.

My name is Caitlin, and I have no idea what I'm doing.
